Bill Paden died on August 6, 2004. He was a hanga woodblock printmaker from way back, having studied moku-hanga in Japan during the Sixties. He lived in New York City for many years and taught at NYU. He knew an enormous amount about hanga printmaking. He was a very generous personnality and loved to share knowledge about hanga. He wanted to be sure we all did things the right way. He created in his studio a cloister-like retreat (see photos below). We all miss him a great deal.

"Overlook Mountain" (A Series of 12 views):
I think this series of prints Bill Paden made after a mountain in Woodstock, NY shows beautifully the wonderful
range of printing and color possibilities possible with the medium of hanga printing. |
